Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to HEAL THE HORSES blog. We're 3 sisters who live in Miami, Florida, USA. We are high school and middle school students. The public school system in Miami requires that we do community service every year. We decided to join forces and help what we love most....horses! This idea came to us because our beloved horses are in trouble. Even though we live in Miami, we are lucky enough to spend the summers at our grandparents' home in Roanoke, Virginia. For the past 10 summers, we have spent most of our summer hours at Slocum's Appaloosa Ranch. This ranch offers trail rides, riding lessons, boarding, summer camp for kids, and birthday parties. There are 102 horses. April and Marilyn Slocum, the owners of the horses, have lost the lease on the ranch that they have called "home" for the last 16 years due to the death of it's owner. The new owner upped their rent from $600 a month to $5000!!! They simply can't afford that so they must move. You can imagine, it is no small feat to find the perfect place for so many horses that also allows room to have trail rides, etc. To make matters worse, they lovingly care for many horses that are old, blind, or that have cancer, etc. Horses that have been a part of their family...our family...for decades. We're asking for your help, to help us raise money for the horses. Please support our cause! We found online a great book that you can read for free that contains a very old secret method for taming horses...the author even used this method to tame a wild boar and a deer! This secret contains "a complete lesson of morality." A lesson that if used in every day life with all living creatures, animal or human, would result in a much happier world! We'll gladly give you the link to it! Every couple of days, we are going to write new stories about some of the horses and the people who's lives have been touched and positively altered by them. Also, we'll post pictures and videos. You can adopt a horse that needs veterinary care. We will document their surgery for cancer, etc. and let you see their progress. We love these horses and soon you will, too....they each have a lesson to teach us all. We look forward to sharing them with you. So please stay tuned.
